Invisalign is a type of orthodontic treatment that uses removable aligners instead of metal braces. The aligners are made of SmartTrack®, an FDA-approved thermoplastic that’s nearly invisible.
Because Invisalign aligners are removable, you can continue to eat your favorite snacks, including those not allowed with traditional braces. And, because there are no brackets or wires involved, you’re much less likely to experience cuts, swelling, or other similar issues.
At Intelligent Dental Group, the team uses Invisalign to treat several types of alignment issues, including:
You might also benefit from orthodontic treatment with Invisalign if you have noticeable gaps or spaces between your teeth.
Invisalign treatment begins with a review of your oral health history and a discussion of your goals. Afterward, your provider conducts an oral exam and takes a series of oral X-rays to assess the alignment of your jaw and teeth.
If your provider determines you qualify for treatment, they use a digital scanner to take impressions of your mouth. Then, they upload your impressions to a computer-aided design (CAD) program and create a customized orthodontic treatment plan.
Your provider explains the treatment plan to you and answers any questions. Then, they send your impressions to an Invisalign facility that manufactures your first set of oral aligners.
Most people complete orthodontic treatment with Invisalign in 12 months*, but it can take longer. To speed up the process, it’s essential to wear your aligners for 20-22 hours a day, only removing them to eat or brush your teeth.
During the course of treatment, you return to the office every few weeks. At each visit, you receive a new pair of aligners that place slightly different pressure on your teeth
Yes. Invisalign aligners collect food particles, saliva, and bacteria. To reduce build-up, rinse your aligners off several times a day in cool tap water and brush them with a soft-bristle toothbrush before going to bed.
